garage and for the minio gateway (RIP) i use versitygw

Have been looking for minio alternative for long already. Found versitygw lately and would like to share the joy. It feels very promising. Fits to many small or lab use cases.

It does not actually solve the trickiness of managing large storage but relies on the backend (that is usually fs like zfs in small setups).

However, seems to be quite new project plus the risk, that the owning company takes it to bad direction, is there too.

you can always ask the other person, if they want advise or not

for me it would be more about who you are speaking to. If i know somebody i will tell them straight that it is a bad idea. Anybody else, depends on the context or the business relation.

yeah and both ways are wrong. I have as much in common with the the german nazis as i have with the japanese war crimes with the chinese and i am german.

We should have strived for understanding that racism is to be fought against and not "hey these countries are bad because they lost" If you have seen the horrors what the americans did to the vietnamese or other way around, or the serbs against their neighbors the bosnians, you come to the conclusion every country is shit.

We need to understand as a species that in order to evolve, we need to break out of the violence and dumb wars, over resources. We have so much potential and we are wasting it, because of stupid and greedy people pushing misery and hate. Don't get me started on religion

or treat vm's as containers and just spawn a single process in a firecracker vm. More secure than containers will ever be and just as easy as another vm. Could be managed by kubernetes if you like or need to manage many of these.

i had such a hard time learning traefik and transitioning to V2. I do not fall into the standard case, wanting to use traefik for containers, not running on the same host (you cannot have labels annoted as the docs suggest, if the container is on another host) Docs were sparse and also not wanted to use the env vars for the traefik config as well, so took a bit of fumbling and reading and eventually i figured it out, but was almost on the verge of going back to haproxy

you don't need to simulate everything in a big monolith and with all the complexity of everybody in it, that does not scale well.

You only need to simulate the perspective of you and what you can see, observe and the interactions you make right now.

Same as video games just render in a certain radius around you.

That scales well per human. Heck everybody around you might be an NPC and you will never know

You can still simulate it as a whole and have it scale:

- You can simulate whatever is not observed statistically and collapse to a discrete reality only when actually observed

- You can handwave away whatever is outside the observable universe since information (and thus effects) will never reach the observer

- Heck you can even handwave whatever has been observed and over time return to statistics thanks to n-body problem, n>2; it would be somewhat incorrect but no one would be able to check that it is wrong as long as it fits within a lightcone

I think that it's actually more "perfect" than simulating every atom, in the sense that it matches quantum mechanics, foregoing the intuitive model of a fully deterministic Newtonian universe that would need to be simulated "perfectly" everywhere all at once down to Planck scale.

Depending on capabilities within the simulation, that method scales unpredictably. If you can build supercomputers and run programs on them, these need to be simulated accurately at all times lest it becomes noticeable that they don't perform according to spec. Basically, the more machines you build, the larger the set of interactions that must be simulated becomes, and if your simulator's capacity is limited, then either things have to break from the perspective of the simulation, or the simulatees are effectively performing a denial of service attack on the simulator.

interesting perspective. So all entities in one big simulation to ensure everyone has the same clock/variables/... and then just simulate around the person?

do it like the french and blow shit up

i did pure oxygen in a pressure chamber for about 4 weeks, it got significantly better after that, at least in my perception. Could be also just the time after the infection

for me it would be a lot of underlying complexity for "just" exposing docker-compose containers to the internet.

I don't really understand the target audience here. If you need to manage dns, server hardening, backups, upgrades, internet exposing and evaluating the risks behind that, you should be able to do the rest yourself too. And it is single server only
