Spacex had an engine explosion during a flight, yet their primary mission was successful. This is the benefit of modern rocket technology.


That the SpaceX engine failure was non-catastrophic doesn't mean all failure modes are like that. I'd imagine it's still possible for a SpaceX engine to go ka-boom in certain situations. Modern tech or otherwise, they're still working with what's in essence a large bomb.
