I'm really curious what the major hurdles to using Cygwin were, at least from an Unix user point of view. I've been using it for the past 6 years or so and I'm quite happy.

These days I feel that the best bet on Windows is to install the 20 or so Windows specific programs that you probably use + Cygwin.
