I’d want to see a popular package manager that doesn’t suck before I’d consider going back. (Similar to how Python is finally getting its act together with the uv tool.)

There is Mill, which is pretty cool, but it is quite small.

Though Gradle is more than fine with the Kotlin DSL nowadays.
