The country that excels at nuclear (I mean plain old fission) will dominate AI and by extension, the world. Thinking is bit flipping and Shannon's law only hints at it but Landauer's principle is more like it. AIs powered by wind and solar and diminishing fossil fuels will be bested and trampled by AIs powered by nuclear. And nuclear has such an energy density bonus and smaller necessary unit >1GWe count that even an 'inferior' AI powered by nuclear won't remain inferior for long.
Because there are so many anti-nuclear idiots in the US (mind clones of Jane Fonda) it's pretty much China's AI wins. I hope it treats us well.
It all comes down to energy density. It was never about money, or politics, IP that starts out secret then whod'a thunk it, or good intentions, or whose system of government is more popular with the kids.
I find the idea that China could spend so much time 'catching up' to be barely credible. That sounds like the AIs have gotten smart already and know they have to apply the Cold War playbook to motivate humans.
