To be fair, if people die sooner from obesity/cancer issues the economic benefit can be measured easily. An aging population, not in the workforce, demanding subsidies is…not efficient. If they were corralled into large group homes, it would be less detrimental financially, but culturally and ethically in the USA this notion is highly problematic (yet valid if efficiency and savings are the primary drivers of discussion and action).
