Imposter syndrome: the tech-savvy I know know more tech

Social anxiety: the cool kids I know know more cool stuff

I have not seen this paradox connected to these contexts. Is this interpretation of the paradox legit? Are feelings of inadequacy vs network effects simply statistics playing out? Anywhere else this paradox applies?
