"Audio engines" exist.. they are called VSTs or plugins. The ones with the most physical modeling are echo and reverb plugins.. modeling a physical environment and then reproducing it digitally. Or noise reduction plugins - reverse engineering various "noise" sources and then subtracting them. Very math intensive.
