You seem to have some romanticized notion of engineers and deeply offended by someone calling themselves engineer. Why do you even care if someone sits at a coffee shop writing emails and calls themselves engineer? You think it somehow dilutes prestige of word "engineer"? Makes it less elite or what?
"deeply offended" - My default response to imposters is laughter. Call yourself Lord, King, President, Doctor, Lawyer whatever - doesn't matter to me. I'd suggest you to lighten up.
