Amazon Could Face Government Order Making It Liable for Third-Party Products (wsj.com)

Accountability is needed in this era of "marketplaces". I don't care if it's thru better/clearer separation of first-party vs third-party sellers or thru letting the retailers like Amazon represent however they want but get dinged when something goes wrong; but right now it seems like there's absolutely nothing done. People are increasingly buying healthcare product online, or products that could be dangerous if they malfunction (appliances), and at the rate we're going it'll erase 50+ years of progress in electrical and fire safety as well as further erode our health and wellness (faulty covid tests or thermometers, poorly calibrated dosing tools, etc.)

It seems like this was attempted before (2019):

Honestly something like this needs to happen, since the whole 'anything goes including illegal and dangerous products' setup these sites have going on is utter insanity. Cause let's be real here, if any site other than Amazon sold the kind of products Amazon allows, they'd probably be sued or shut down. Same with any company selling such things in their physical stores.
