My mother in law was refused a liver transplant because she refused to stop drinking.

There are only so many donors and demand far exceeds the supply.

I'm sorry that both this person and my mother in law have passed but I also accept that precious donor organs are going to go to recipients with the best prospects for long term recovery.

My mother in law chose to drink rather than receive a transplant, this person chose her political convictions over a transplant. They were both adults who made the best choices they saw fit to make. Even though I see both as preposterous I respect thier convictions/addictions.

I see no issue here and we should move on rather than try to make hay out of this.

It's often stated, often glibly, that actions have consequences. All too often that phrase is used to justify treating people terribly for minor choices.

In this case however someone made a selfish, foolish and risky decision in the face of years of attempts by pretty much all respectable people to change their mind. At the end of the day those actions have consequences, it's the real meaning meaning of "karma" not as some universal moralistic mechanism, but just... cause and effect.

She chose to not take her own or others' well being into account despite warnings and probably her own doctors pleading with her. The effect is that in a competitive, high risk situation she was not prioritized.

That’s not what this website is for.
