This is pretty cool - being able to identify/segregate traffic by its physical room seems like it would be a useful tool for anyone in security, university professors giving exams, etc.
I can't really see it totally replacing WiFi though. It's hard enough to get a TV remote to work outside in the shade - getting higher-bandwidth IR-based WiFi to work outside in the sun seems... ambitious?
