How can a software engineer help the war in Ukraine?
1 point by martincmartin on Jan 18, 2023 | hide | past | favorite | 2 comments
As a software engineer with some spare time, I've considered assisting the Ukrainian side, but don't know where to start.

- Does open source intelligence[0] need any help? Better ML models for detecting military objects in videos? Improvements to geolocation? Better user interfaces? Better back end infrastructure?

- Are there any open source libraries used by the Ukrainian side (and not by the Russian side) with open bugs?

- Something else?

I've donated money, and could do other things that don't use my programming skills. But it seems using my skills could make for a greater impact.

I don't have security clearance or any other connection, I'm just a random dev living in the West.

Ukrainians are good developers themselves. Maybe you can automate finding Western busineses still using software made in Russia and recomend alternatives. Or nudge Western IT companies to provide special deals for Ukrainian developers

Please, help to replace English text or Russian translations of software with Ukrainian translation, e.g. by binary patching.
