Ontological Design Has Become Influential in Design Academia – But What Is It? (aiga.org)

As a coder/designer, I've recently started a PHD in Design and am seeking to position my work around the climate crisis, was very interested to discover the concept of the Pluriverse and of a conception of "a world where many worlds(views) fit".

My recent takeaway is that all this effort going into debating and arguing for which approach is 'right' is actually missing the point and that it's the neoliberal/colonial conception of 'one right way' or one true worldview which is a big part of the problem we face.

In other words a move away from "What's right?" to "What's right for _______?", and spending more time unpacking the regularly unstated "_______" part.

If nothing else it does neatly explain discussions on inclusion, as a shift to inclusive spaces and approaches fits more easily with a conception that there is always multiple valid ways.

The huge quantity and variation of available programming languages speaks to a Pluriverse. The arguments over which is the best one speak into the one-world world conception.

Interested in if anyone else has been exploring these sorts of concepts.

I can see the broader design profession has clearly been moving in new directions: https://www.designcouncil.org.uk/our-work/skills-learning/to...
