On a pedantic note, you are believing in the expertise of those who told you to be skeptical.

Edit: Not sure why all the downvotes. The point I’m making is that even “don’t just trust peoples ideas” is itself an idea, and that almost all ideas are inherited from prior generations in some form or another. Socrates is the person most famous for popularizing skepticism - we didn’t invent this concept recently, and we believe in it mostly because those we respect told us to (somewhat ironically)



I don't think you have to be an expert on anything to value skepticism (e.g. an encyclopedia editor), and vice versa (e.g. an astrologist). They are independent. However, most scientists are both.


Yeah, I heard positivists were pretty dismayed when they realized that their "positive program" was actually a philosophical statement.
