I take with a grain of salt mega-corps complaining about "crime", when usually it's just used to deflect from other plans that they already have in place that just aren't as appealing to the public.

Honestly, I have a really hard time reading this situation. Admittedly crime has risen in Chicago (I live here) and folks talk about it a lot. Partly because it's warranted, partly because it's amplified in order to get Pritzker out of the governorship. In any case, McDonalds moved their headquarters downtown to appeal to folks who wanted to work in the hipper downtown than the Chicago suburbs. But then the pandemic hit and now they are paying for an expensive office that isn't as appealing as it was before. So are these CEOs looking for excuses to leave the city (and blame Democrats who will tax them more)? Are there actually concerns inside the company that folks don't want to work downtown Chicago (I could honestly see that as possible as well). shrug
