It does seem weird for an art space that started as a place for people to put their rip-offs of other people's trademarked characters to express concern about machines infringing on original creations.

I know quite some digital artists and they tend to bath in inspirational and context related material before they create their stuff. Or they train on a specific art style or techniques that not necessarily have been invented by them. So basically they do the same.
