It's easy to get a decent job with Amazon in the NYC metro. They already have superior benefits compared to other large employers, especially for part time employees. It seems like this was motivated by not wanting to cull the golden goose. There aren't a lot of golden geese in NYC if you're not in finance, tech or government.
