Ask HN: Best site(s) to look for freelance illustrators/animation artists?

Hey all, I am trying to figure out if there is a better way to hire freelance illustrators/animation designers than our current workflow. This involves posting on upwork etc, scouring behance/dribbble. I am aware of designpickle and its like, but not of similar sites that focus on illustration/animation. Are there any? Thanks!

I'm also in the process of hiring a Senior Brand Designer. I use https://dribbble.com and recently launched Polywork.

I used https://www.twine.net/ quite few times when needing some assets for my app. There’s a lot of talented people on there.

Twine looks interesting; trying it out, thanks!

Not exactly in reply to what you asked, but for you and anybody else who might be interested, I'm an animator and motion designer in the UK, currently looking for either more work, or a permanent junior position. My portfolio is here [1], and my email is in my profile. All the best!

Your showreel is wonderfully quirky :)

I used behance.net to find my designer 5 years ago

Thanks. I use behance as well, and it is quite good. However finding someone who is good and also available takes a lot of back and forth. Hoping there's some new solution that makes it more efficient

https://www.artstation.com/ is also a location where many digital artists post their portfolio, and get freelance work...

Just like any other business relationship, why not talk with local professionals or talk to the people you used before?

Like any other profession, talented professional artists are non-fungible.

Good luck.

Thanks. On projects where we know we can work with people we have, we do. But sometimes the requirements in terms of skills and aesthetics are different. Also, discovering local professionals seems to be just as hard.

I find a ton of stuff I love on deviantart.com
