The history of Indonesian spices is written in blood. The island of Run, once the only place in the world where nutmeg grew, was forcibly depopulated by the Dutch, massacring some 10,000 people in the process:

Love Google Arts and Culture! I always wanted to work there, but seems it's a small team in Paris quite separated from most of Google based on researching on LinkedIn. I'm happy Google has it, and I wish they'd invest more in it.

On a side note if anyone wants to learn more about spices and try them, there's a cool startup I recently discovered for it [1] (not affiliated to me). It's been really cool to support local farmers and try new spices while knowing the backstory.
