I've only ever had two cables fray and I've also only ever had two Apple products: two iPods that had their cables fray within 2 years of owning them.

I've had countless other mp3 players, laptops and other electronics and have never had a cable fray.

So sure, it might be user related, but that does not change the fact that other manufacturer's cables don't have that issue.
