I don’t understand the headline. I already run Ubuntu, which is Linux, under Virtual Box, on Mac.


I suppose the idea is to not need VirtualBox, like in WSL under Windows.


It’s the same kind of emulation as VirtualBox. (And WSL2.)


BTW AFAIK in Win10, both the Windows kernel and the WSL2 Linux kernel run under the same hypervisor. Apparently performance implications are minimal.


Apple’s CPUs have historically not been able to do this. Apple is adding APIs to make this possible.
