You think tech is not going to be affected by this warmongering?
I think it's one of the biggest threats, if not the biggest, for US tech startups wanting to sell to customers outside of the US.
I don't consider myself very politically active, neither are my friends. But we are all looking to detach from the US and its companies. If you are a fledgling startup, in the coming weeks you might just lose out on many of your potential customers.
Exactly! Digital sovereignity is something we talk about a lot in Europe now since Trump is back and it's already causing german states to go full OpenSource and Microsoft-free. Chaos Computer Club called out the national "Digital Independence Day" this year, it's each month's first sunday (https://di.day).
It might not look like much but Trump is also making people realize over here how bad big-tech is for european values and how it's trying to undermine them for profit. This Greenland-thing is a step too much for Europe and seeing how close the techbros are to Trump, that is one thing where we can hurt them, take back our Data.
It is certainly possible that the US tech sector will be affected by the latest US president's brain farts… but I couldn't care less. Not my country. Not my scene.
I'm here for ASCII characters rendering pipelines, scientific breakthroughs, experimental filesystems, random wikipedia links, monospaced fonts, etc., not for silly politics.
It's not even a slow boil which is the craziest aspect of it. They're speedrunning into Corporations Lebensraum, the American twist is to call it "national security" (such a great bit of propaganda, umbrella term for stamping out anything internal or external since 9/11).
Watching Stephen Miller talk is fucking scary, I cannot comprehend what happened to American society to allow this to happen, I understand social media brainrotting many, I don't understand the sane ones simply sitting on the sidelines, and wailing on the internet...
What basis is there to prevent undocumented American migrants from deciding to make Greenland their new home? Don't we believe in free movement of people? X with out borders?
Almost every statement coming out of the administration contains a lie, and the ones who vote for the liars only speak more lies. Their relationship with truth is nonexistent. There is no way to snap these people out of it because they are agenda driven, not evidence driven. It has to run its course until betraying the truth costs more than driving the agenda. Counterintuitively, this means driving them further into the abyss, not taking them out of it.
We had our first when I was 37 and our second when I was 43. It wasn't so bad - it's tiring but I'm also a lot more emotionally mature than I was in my 20s and early 30s. And I have an absolute ton more money and stability (which also helps pay for things like nannies and school).
The thing I'm a little sad about is that I'm unlikely to be there for too long when my kids have kids.
"De Belastingdienst, met daarnaast ook de Douane en de Dienst Toeslagen, gebruikt momenteel eigen software voor kantoorautomatisering."
This is M365 so it's not to do with Azure. It says they used their own office software before that was not cloud. That's what I referred to.
I was not aware what they do with the more traditional cloud stuff but I'm not surprised they handed everything on a silver platter to the US though. The neolib party that has been in power for the last 20 years is super US centric and their previous prime minister is now acting as Trump's lapdog as general secretary of NATO.
