Wow.. I didn't expect this many comments.. the amazing extended discussion about software collectives and communities.
Some things that looks in the neighborhood is #openforwork, Quorom1, Loomio, and the discord posted here https://discord.gg/TyQfcSZk
But I was looking for a simple meetup organized in San Francisco, and perhaps an online forum/discussion area. No business model, no guild.. just community. Would others join?
I've already committed the ultimate sin: registered a domain: openforwork.community. Nothing there yet.
To keep the good discussion juice going - what do you recommend for a forum? Last one I installed was Discourse. I think these days a slack/discord channel is what new communities do.. but..I'm old.. and a place on the internet with its own domain could work for this.
Maybe I was thinking of this: https://layoffs.fyi/. The "list of employees" must be an opt in spreadsheets where people are posting their own info. Could be improved with a forum IMO.
thanks.. I remember hearing about that in 2009 :) There must/should to be something thats more open to the thousands of people recently forced into the job market across many companies?
"Pursuant to the authority vested in the Secretary of Energy to carry out the functions of the Atomic
Energy Commission, I hereby order that the decision rendered on June 29, 1954, In The Matter of
J. Robert Oppenheimer be vacated. "
I love Chorus! I encountered it in the workplace and it blew my mind. The holotropic breathing thing makes me slightly hallucinate. Which is perfect for a work day.
I think it was a good fit with the move to remote world, having a community of people to mediate with - think they have grown a ton. I have friends who like that better. Personally I find myself a little lazy to show up - giving myself some space for that and look forward to in person classes again.
Also love these hackernews comments that seem negative/not understanding.. reminds me of the dropbox snark! Strong signal ladies, keep it up!
Hahah thank you so much! Honestly - we love the discourse too.
We are by no means trying to replace traditional meditation and Chorus certainly isnt for everyone. But for people it IS for we are frickin thrilled to help them unlock a mindfulness practice of their own!
So great to hear about your experience with us back when we were in person. We too hope that some day we can have both a digital and in-person presence because human connection is so important.
I can also relate to the challenge of prioritizing time to do it when you dont have somewhere physical to "GO". That ease of use is exactly what we are working on in our new app, so would love to see if we can help you with our new experience. But totally get if you are just an in-person person :) And we send you big Chorus hugs and thanks again for the support!!
From the WikiPedia page: "Routing incoming calls is the task of the ACD system".
TaskRouter isn't an ACD in that sense.. or no solely an ACD system anyway. It is an API driven way to distribute user defined tasks. It can serve as an ACD, such as routing calls to an available agent.. or.. SMS.. or chat.. or "tickets" or whatever you define as a Task and a Worker using.. primitives. No dependence on calls.
To your point.. maybe using the ACD would help some people understand it at first glance.
Sure, that's what the Wikipedia article says (since calls are what ACDs were originally designed for), but commercial ACDs have been multi-channel for a long time, doing all the things you mentioned.
Oppenheimer was probably lucky to have gone through this, long term, to be accused by these clowns instead of endorsed. He saw it as the sham it was, and the characterization of a “broken man” is misleading. Had many years of lecturing, writing books, and leading the Institute for Advanced study after this, with deep support from the scientific community. Although it was deeply hurtful.. he was a loyal man, a soldier basically during the war, and his country betrayed him.
His consulting contract to the AEC was expiring in December 1953, but as a political takedown he was officially accused instead of simply not renewing. Oppenheimer had the option to compromise and resign, but he declined writing Strauss: “Under the circumstances, this course of action would mean that I accept and concur in the view that I am not fit to serve this government, that I have now served for some twelve years. This I cannot do. If I were thus unworthy I could hardly have served our country as I have tried, or been the Director of our Institute in Princeton, or have spoken, as on more than one occasion I have found myself speaking, in the name our science and our country”.*
He was found to be absolutely loyal, he was not even accused of violating any security regulations. But was accused of not being sufficiently enthusiastic about a crash program to build a hydrogen bomb, and that this lack of enthusiasm was a sign of a character flaw.
This “trial” marked an end of extremely wide public respect for scientists. And a new era where technical and scientific achievements are to be harvested by military industrial complex, and used by right wing strategists. It put scientists in their place..
