What are the implications of this?

The node operators still have just as much control over the network over the miners, and they're incredibly decentralized. This was evident in the blocksize wars that ravaged the Bitcoin community a couple years back.

Sigh, I'll bite. The Bitcoin blockchain is still working exactly as intended, the blocks keep running and nobody has been able to change the supply. You can still use it to run decentralized, permission-less transfers of value across the internet. It's the world's digital asset you can transfer anywhere without 3rd party. It solves censorship and inflation, and works just fine. This article is full of strawman arguments against bitcoin activists and I'd love this site to be much more neutral on the topic in the future.
