I don't get the Far Side. Could a Cliff Clavin chime in ?

Yeah I'm generally a big fan but that one is a bit obscure - according to this [0], it's just the incongruity of trained professionals in mortal danger using a childish nickname for the thing that's about to destroy them.

I think it's simply out of fashion. E.g., "Don't mess with Mr. In-between" is a line from the 1940's song "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive." It's addressing abstract entities in a personalized form, which --I assume-- is a style convention commonly understood at the time.

I learnt of this song through the fantastic series "The Singing Detective."

Those only smart enough to think of our local star as "Mr Sun" perhaps should not be piloting craft in its vicinity.

Children's song lyrics I heard growing up.

Sun, sun, Mr. Golden sun, sun shine down on me.

Check your weight in the health app. I’ve entered a very low value by mistake and had this happen.

Another great book (by an American but from the Japanese perspective) is The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936-1945 by John Toland. One of the books referenced by Dan in his podcast and contains many first hand accounts of Japanese soldiers, citizens, and leadership.

Much more nuanced account of the history and mindset that lead to the war and sustained it than most of the responses here would indicate.

The Dexcom G7 (not yet released) is supposed to be able to connect directly to the Apple Watch. The current G6 requires the phone but does have a watch complication that displays your current trend and trend graph.

It is technically possible to connect the Apple Watch directly to the FreeStyle Libre glucose sensors as demonstrated here: https://github.com/gui-dos/DiaBLE

Unfortunately, in this case you need to pay for a certificate for signing the app, build it yourself and so on

To add to this, it can be configured to also buzz your wrist while you’re asleep if you go low (eg at 70) before it starts making noise for a very low alert (eg 55). Really convenient to not wake up a partner. Your phone still has to be in Bluetooth range though.

With the open source app xDrip, any Android watch has been able to act as a collector since G4 days already. With AndroidAPS you can even dose insulin directly from the watch.

For sailing, I prefer PredictWind for the mountainous coast and inlets of Vancouver BC. The NAM and HRRR models give most accurate results here.
