that's doubtful. Sure they will eventually go away but they're still popular amongst the moderately rich. However I can see forcing conversion of everything over to non leaded fuel spread out across 20 years or something.
So, currently, as I understand it, piston engine planes are attainable to people who merely have more money than sense (my possibly unfair mental image is the sort of person who buys a 100,000 EUR car while still having a mortgage), but private _jets_ are the domain of the actually very rich. Any cost increase is likely to hurt them in a way that it wouldn’t hurt private jets.
You don't need to be particularly wealthy to own a single engine prop plane. My contractor who I had a decade or two ago flew one and, while successful enough, it's fair to describe him as working middle class.
I started flying in the 90s. Most of the pilots I met were not rich, but rather just enthusiasts with a particular hobby. The last 30 years have seen fewer people overall, but also skewing more wealthy as the costs have also risen faster than general inflation.
It’s like going to the marina; some people there are notably rich, but most aren’t and are instead just modestly successful folks who put their discretionary money into a hole in the water.
You first point: that's not even close to being enslaved or forced to do whatever your government tells you to do under threat of imprisonment. Yes, it is very, very different.
I wonder if she considered making "extensions that are a bit taller than the vertical distance of the hangers and then you could get even more stuff on one rack as you stagger the shorter and taller hangers.
Yeah, I worked at one small scale place. Our final products were very expensive (around $5k-$20k, depending on features). The case that the instrument went into cost us almost $150 a pop from a local metal shop, which was (relatively) small and easy to add on to the price of the device, so the customer barely noticed anyway. Of course, we had people who'd worked in mass-produced ventures who complained constantly that it would be so much cheaper in large batches. They projected $5-15 per case, if only we sold in bulk, of course we didn't so it was lunch talk for years. They knew why we didn't bother for more “molded” parts made in China and such, but still never let it go. :)
My guess however is that within a few months if this goes semi-viral is there will be $1 versions from ali-express after they get a little time to play around. Obviously they won't be manufactured as well, but they likely will be good enough to fool some people into buying them and working for a few months before they wear out
I think the problem is that they didn't rebuke these groups and tell them that the people don't want to approve stazi tactics in order make it easier for police surveillance for their pet "concern". We all know the primary reason is to slowly sneak in surveillance everywhere, not necessarily for evil purposes, but a system which once set becomes extremely easy to expand upon for surveillance all the time, for any reason because a democratic society just accepted it.
