I have fond memories from my Acorn days of staying in the 'typewriter' hotel on visits to Ivrea - it became derelict, but perhaps it has been revived...
The tapestry was made by nuns. I'm not sure what to make of it. May be it was more common occurrence so to speak - because men were basically wearing dresses too, and short ones at that, and even codpieces would appear only centuries later.
No fun in Victorian times though:
"Interestingly, many of the penises depicted in the original tapestry were not transferred over to the Victorian recreation, as the Leek Embroidery Society, which made the replica, was given censored etchings, engravings, and photos to work from."
Dr Strangelove himself seems to be the perfect prototype for a modern tech entrepreneur: The type of mad techno bro who relishes the opportunity to apply his hair-brained schemes to fix real world problems. The worse things get the more he bubbles with excitement and throws out outlandish solutions.
