Underdog.io | New York | ONSITE | https://underdog.io

Underdog.io, a talent marketplace, is hiring a backend engineer in New York. This role will have ownership over backend and DevOps on our Python (Flask) and JavaScript-based stack. Underdog.io is a small, revenue-funded company where everyone’s contribution and decision-making is directly impactful. Ideal candidates have the skills and initiative to think deeply about everything from code quality to internal processes to the broader market in which we operate. Specifically, we’re looking for someone with:

- Server-side development experience in Flask or a similar framework (Django, Express, etc.).

- Client-side development experience, preferably using a JS library like React or AngularJS.

- A deep understanding of HTTP and RESTful API design.

- Familiarity with SQL databases (we use PostgreSQL) and general data modeling practices.

- Experience managing AWS environments and working with DevOps tools (Jenkins, Docker, etc.).

- A desire to contribute to open-source projects.

Email chris+hn@underdog.io if you’re interested in learning more. No agencies, bootcamp grads, or visa candidates.

Underdog.io | Creative Technologist | New York, NY | ONSITE

Underdog.io is a curated talent marketplace headquartered in New York.

We're looking to hire a designer-developer to work with us on a 4-6 week project at full-time or mostly-full-time capacity. React experience and strong holistic design thinking are the only requirements, although we’re especially interested in working with people who are interested in designing for accessibility or disadvantaged communities. The project itself is a web application (not a marketing site) that will have be used by people who are looking for jobs. We are big on cultivating agency and helping people align with their values, so that will be a theme of our thinking and work.

We are thinking about this as a product residency where you will work and think with us at our office, fit into our product development process, and be supported completely through the project.

Please email me at chris at underdog.io if you're interested in finding out more.

Really took 6 months if you factor in design/marketing work.

Given the varying lengths of these immersives, I'd love to see a per week price comparison (or some sort of common unit $ comparison). That, plus non-inflated placement rates, would be helpful.

I threw this document together quick trying to break down the "unit" (per week) price of each coding school mentioned in the article.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wKfEzO860nn_2AuKx5fD...

The main issue I found is that some schools include other services in the tuition, like career services, housing, etc. Where others are simply just the course.

Underdog.io | New York, NY | https://underdog.io | Full-Time | ONSITE or REMOTE

We’re looking to hire a full-stack engineer (engineer #3/employee #6).

Today, Underdog.io is a curated marketplace for talent. We connect amazing people with founders and hiring managers at top technology companies.

We don’t charge placement fees because we’re not recruiters. We’re building technology to reduce the noise of the job search and match. We started Underdog.io because we experienced the pains associated with (1) hiring while working at top startups and (2) looking for new opportunities.

Our platform is currently live in SF and NYC, where we work with 180+ awesome startups. We’ve had to turn away one of every two companies that have tried to join the network. We've proudly bootstrapped and profitable.

As we scale, we’ll focus on building tools for candidates to organize, search, and discover new job opportunities. In our view of the future, job candidates don’t receive unsolicited outreach from recruiters and companies don’t pay placement fees for the vast majority of their hires. Job search is organized and talented candidates have more high-quality options.

We use Python/Flask, Javascript/Node.js, PostgreSQL, Elastic Search, AWS. We're also working on a project in Ruby/Sinatra. And we're big supporters of open source.

Between Plated, Blue Apron, HelloFresh, and others, lots of cool stuff going on in this space.

We're also looking for an NLP Engineer!
