If we take a simple definition of technology - such as “tool” or some external inanimate thing we use as an extension of ourselves - then I think all animals on Earth that we have deemed intelligent to some degree use “technology”. Crows using sticks to pick things out holes, chimps crafting spears for hunting, dolphins wearing “hats”, octopuses building stone fortresses, etc. So I guess it’s important to define the limit of the definition of technology.
to be fair, I also made quite a lot of profit in stocks in the last few days without any inside knowledge of the whitehouse. it was a fairly safe bet that these tariffs were not going to last forever, and even if they were, there'd be reprieves
Offering a rebuttal, and then backing it up with a personal experience is a perfectly normal form of conversation.
It is fine to amuse yourself with your speech, but it is worth recognising that it sounds like you are hosting a nature documentary about dumb animals, that exist beneath your own intelligence.

“It is” not. Perhaps it could be, alongside many other things - included in which are the benefits of doing so, such as acceptance, and internal peace. I implore you to go to any community around the world and try to fit in - chances are you won’t. You will then blame that community for not accepting you - or you will otherwise try to change yourself and only ever delude yourself that you are not just imitating them. It’s not racism, or anti-cisgenderism, to feel that you are not accepted where you are.
Maybe OP shouldn’t blanket talk about cis people - I understand your point. But my question is - do you only pick this fight with oppressed people? You yourself insinuate, in blanket fashion, “We have tried to get away from ‘oppression’ by giving the ‘oppressed’ the right to act out their chauvinism in public.”
Your words (and perhaps you, yourself) are very cynical. And it’s worth noting cynicism is a view on the world, not the world itself…

It is, but I didn't claim that. Rather, I have my delusions, but not this one: framing society (western, J assume? but isn't that self-centered to assume western? this is an international forum) as a cisheteropatriarchal normative society, and from that segmenting people into oppressed and oppressor as defined by intersectional characteristics, and from that to reach into the oppressor group, pick their elements, and accuse them of perpetuating the status quo, and so remove from them the agency of existing as a group and having a voice other than to help the oppressed.
Do you see people like this? In particular, when observing that a book has only characters of the oppressed type and so it must be great?
A freaky thing that this paper doesn’t mention is that in some cases these tics have gotten so extreme, that one patient began having almost constant seizures and became wheelchair-bound. Imagine being “infected” by watching a video on TikTok! It sounds like a horror movie.

She had to stop work. “Being a chef with seizures is not safe at all,” she says.
Her GP referred her to a neurologist, who diagnosed her with functional neurological syndrome (FND). People with FND have a neurological condition that cannot be medically explained, but can be extremely debilitating. “In a general neurological clinic, around 30% of the conditions we see are not fully explainable,” says Dr Jeremy Stern, a neurologist with the charity Tourettes Action. In Wacek’s case, FND manifested in verbal and motor tics, not dissimilar from how Tourette syndrome appears to lay people, although the two conditions are distinct.
Wacek has up to 20 seizures a day and currently has to use a wheelchair.”
Yeah, I'm surprised on a forum like this people are using it as an opportunity to be like "ugh kids these days in $current_year seeking attention" and not "holy shit this is fascinating." Social media turned "picking up an accent" up to 11 in a way that actually manifests in tangible problems.
IMO the problem is that complex systems is not a field that is taken seriously yet. It got off to a bad start years back with that shitty James Gleick Chaos book.
We just don't have enough people thinking about this as a SIR model on a social graph to spark the conversation. We literally lack the critical mass of people understanding the language. Without the language the thoughts don't exist.
I am sure a 100 years from now people will look back at us as completely insane to be letting social contagions spread around to children as random graphs on a network.
They write 'people with FND have a condition that cannot be medically explained' as though it's just insufficient research, not understood yet. 'FND' is just polite for 'all in your head'. This article reads like 'they're being treated with a drug called Placebo'.
'All in your head' is an expression; one I perhaps should have avoided, obviously there are ailments located in the head that have a 'real' cause.
Panic attacks I suppose may present in 'functional' patients, but there are physiological causes too.
Anyway, I didn't really make any sort of comment on FND itself or patients with that diagnosis, I didn't say 'they just need to pull themselves together' or whatever. I just commented on the way the article was written, that it didn't seem like the author understood.
