Not surprised at all. I know a lot of people that upload sensitive docs to format conversion free sites (like jpg to pdf converter, joining pdfs etc).

Merry Christmas from San Francisco.

I found these podcasts on 1-1s interesting https://www.manager-tools.com/manager-tools-basics

Very much agree with this. A lot of what is said may seem obvious but it’s worth the listen.

Wow, so sad. Like Jobs, he dying young is a loss to humanity.

What? Loss to humanity? Sorry but he was no Steve Jobs or even close. He exited Microsoft in 1982 and essentially spent money that he made off of Microsoft (to do some good things let's say if you forget the patent trolling). Not minimizing what he did that was positive but don't compare it to Steve who actually did 'change the world' (no Jobs fanboy but need to point out what he did was way more than Paul Allen).

Separately that OS that made Microsoft as everyone knows they bought from another company.

What a time to get pedantic.

A space company, half a billion into brain research, tens of millions more in other fields, environment efforts, multiple sports teams, cultural investments, etc. That's a fair loss, and I think the first few qualify adding "to humanity" as well.

Donated $2 billion in his lifetime.

That’s not the point. While it’s great to remember the good he did, it’s fair to remember that he was also a bit of a patent troll. That’s all.

He's not a saint, I don't think anyone would claim that. My point was that after he amassed all that wealth, he did a lot of good with it. He's more proof that you can make a lot of money and help people.

Paul Allen was a good man but...

"I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God"

Some think wealthy people should be held to a higher moral standard for a number of reasons

I understand what you are saying, but I think that people unfamiliar with Christian theology might misunderstand you. It's worth noting that the disciples responded to that with astonishment: "Who then can be saved?" -- even though none of them were rich! Crucially, Christ's response is that with God, _all things_ are possible.

Ultimately, the standard for the Christian is to become like Christ. To walk the path of the cross means to cover and take upon the sins of others, beholding all as worthy of the Kingdom and only oneself as deserving of Hell. This is what Christ did upon the cross for us, and it is what Christians are called to do for all. See the writings of St. Silouan the Athonite for more on this.

It's a bit more than that. That particular passage was also about eliminating anything that got in the way of following god. I believe Jesus also said if your hand causes you to steal, cut it off. You could also argue that this is a passage about trust as getting rid of everything to follow a god requires a lot of faith that a god will survive.

For those of us who are atheists, the messages would be to not place things above people and to take risks in aiding others. Usually the things we fear never materialize.

He donated 2 billion dollars of his wealth to advancement of science, technology, education, wildlife conservation, the arts, and community service. What standard are we talking about?

"ByteDance’s top earners make more than $1 million a year plus stock options, with total compensation sometimes exceeding $3 million. " I bet top earners at Google, Facebook etc make much more than this.

So 100 Engineers will cost $100M per year? I sometimes wonder why the gap between developers are so wide. There are many ( or more like majority ) in HK the make less than a $100K a year.

Can't make this assertion without seeing a distribution.

It's great you were able to find a solution! Best wishes.

Thanks! I’ve found my greatest liability has become my greatest asset.

My experience and scaffolding it left behind allow me to support some incredible people and organizations around the world in their own growth and transformation.

I’ll even be at the UN this Wednesday for a meeting on global mental health.

It is really wild to think that just a few years ago I was being told I’d be on medication the rest of my life; my girl friend at the time (a Stanford Psychiatrist) told me her advisors had said “Stanford psychiatrists don’t date men with bipolar! They never get better, they are like alcoholics!” and that she’s be ruined professionally for associating with someone who thought they could heal without medication; I was suicidal and sleeping in a vacant house in San Jose...

Now I’m living in NYC; engaged to an amazing yogi; a full practice of clients; my relationship with my family is better than ever and we just bought an Island in Panama to build a healing village.

When we go within, anything is possible!

The study doesn't compare equity held by men and women in same position, but total equity. There is a huge imbalance in equity held by founders/execs most of which are men.

Getting up early.

Not a course, but I've enjoyed SE radio podcasts.

yes, I have listened to some of them. There are some gems in there.

I've liked bogleheads forum. The usual advice would be to maxmimize 401(k), ROTH IRA and invest in index funds.
