Is this a problem that exists only with headphones? I have the impression that the speakers on my brand-new Macbook Pro M3 tend to drift to the left, or at least not to be centered.

You know you can check in the audio settings panel?

I wish there was a dedicated distraction-free OS. I would just install it on my old MacBook Air.

A word processor and a basic file system (with possibly a link to Dropbox or something). That's it.

That would be amazing.

[edit] as mentioned here: http://www.suppertime.co.uk/blogmywiki/2019/07/distraction-f...

I have been wondering if something like https://gtoolkit.com/ would fit the bill, though I have to admit I find it a bit hard to grok. But having a form of interactive notebook running as an OS on a simple device could be a really powerful computing experience.

Hi, thanks for sharing the Glamorous Toolkit; I have looked into it in the past, and it reminds me of Emacs 'modability'.

I'm working on a blog post about what a dedicated distraction-free OS would look like.

Wood is fun to work with! Very rewarding.

Lots of dev rely on this plugin in order to make Wordpress much better for their clients (fill the forms and tada!). Hopefully they will keep it that way!

I wonder what are the best ways to take breaks when you're on the computer for 7 hours or more a day without losing your concentration when you have to go back to the screen (NB: I often have several client projects to manage in the same day, my brain goes crazy)

The Pomodoro method jumps to mind.

But I’m with you - if the work at hand isn’t stimulating, any break will take a long while to “recover” from.

mental burnout is a thing. The best way to take breaks ... Is to take breaks! :D

Benefits of taking breaks are many. Such as getting up and moving, increasing blood circulation. Also relieving eye strain by focusing on far away things, rather than your close-up monitor.

I try to practice the 90m on, 30m off regimen that Huberman advocates, and it's worked well. I can do that all day without burnout.

I feel more and more that it is necessary to add [In the US] for many of my internet readings.

Like in many other countries, unfortunately.
