Correct. I am friends with Kelly, who works at Facebook and is friends with Mark. She replied. Her activity on my status update would have made it appear in his newsfeed.
My family nearly went bankrupt from my mom's cancer treatment even though we had health insurance. Until the recent healthcare reform, yearly and lifetime limits and the ability to deny coverage due to pre-existing conditions after enrollment were allowed. My cousin who is healthy but has severe asthma has been unable to attain health insurance on his own since graduating college. He works two part time jobs, but does not have employer sponsored health insurance. The American system is broken and the people who'd benefit the most from fixing it are more concerned about "death panels" that don't exist than looking out for one another.
I started two months ago at Awe.sm, my first full time startup position. I've never worked harder, learned more, or been happier in a job. It's the best team that I've ever been on. Also, we're hiring: http://awe.sm/56okP
Until Google seeks the professional services of a graphic designer and a user experience designer to improve the core UI metaphors (like navigation based, tab bar apps, split view based concepts on the iPhone), I won't consider it a serious alternative to the iPhone. This isn't about skin deep beauty. The user experience on the iPhone is better in nearly every way and it deserves just as much attention as technical improvements.
I had several sites on Media Temple's "grid" service before cloud options were in vogue. The reliability and performance were terrible. Media Temple blamed Expression Engine CMS and Mint tracking scripts, which seemed odd given that they are quite popular and well written. I moved those same sites to Joyent and have never been disappointed.
Facebook stated at previous F8s that it wasn't interested in expanding beyond its current feature sets and that it had invested in APIs so that developers would build the features they couldn't/wouldn't for whatever reason. Twitter needs to make some statement on this or these rumors will have a chilling effect.
ptipng and advpng are great, but pngout still produces smaller files. Without it, I'll be sticking with imageoptim. I would love for someone to figure out what pngout does and start an open source implementation.
