Why is this being downvoted? Depressing to see that open source software is not respected here.

People downvote things that make them angry. The things that make people most angry are those things that strike closest to home. An incorrect or unacceptable comment will be downvoted and commented on, even reported. A perfectly valid and true statement, one that is so true that it scares people, will be silently downvoted. It is a form of denial, an attempt to remove a painful truth.

If you can prove harm, take it to court. In all honesty, I think you'd be making a mockery of yourself trying though. Google is a corrupt technology gone horribly awry and it should be obvious to all soon that there's no remedy nor anyone who even gives a shit about the problems its materialized. Like, what actual resolution do you realistically expect from this?

All I wanted was for them to stop placing the wrong images alongside my book, which they have finally done this morning thanks to Hacker News. Hopefully, the images won’t come back. Btw, there are authors who have knowledge panels with no images attached to them. So Google has written code/an algorithm that allows them to create panels without images.

Because they can get away with it and use it to make more money from your "experience".

The hubris of Reuters news using a domain called 'trust.org' is a perfect parody of today's media.

Is Reuters a particularly untrustworthy news source?

It's not journalism if it's suggested you simply "trust" the journalist.

I'd rather go to unarguable-factbased-article.org myself.

It's not journalism if it is a bullet point of facts, either. Journalism provides context, background, and yes, it provides opinion sometimes as well.

Exactly right, from what you know, which is limited to the point of useless on a proprietary, closed source system. It's almost guaranteed to be backdoored being as such.

> It's almost guaranteed to be backdoored being as such.

I.e. it’s a guess.

This petition, or whatever it is supposed to be, completely mis-characterizes the problem entirely. It isn't that Apple can scan photos, it's that Apple can install any software of their choosing at any time, whether they choose to tell you or not. Therefore, there is no expectation of privacy on such closed source proprietary platforms.
